Creative Ways to Cart your Toddler and Twins: That aren’t Strollers!

My Twins arrived two weeks after my singleton turned 2 years old. One of my most underestimated tasks of having 3 under 2 for a year and now 3 under 3 years old was getting them from destination to destination. I feared going out and they seemed so particular about what made them comfortable. My Trio never loved strollers at young ages, unless they were ready to nap so I had to get creative and find functional items. From mid week grocery trips, to Target runs, and getting outdoors even for just a walk I was surprised at how tricky it was to tote all three littles along with me. I have a collection of far to many items, so to save you the hassle here is the run down of each! These seem to be our favorite methods!

Going for a walk?

The Step 2 Whisper Wagon and The Step 2 Whisper Ride. This covered wagon is awesome in the sense it protects your littles from the sun/rain and there is 2 seats, buckles and trays for snacking on the go. Or if you have little ones like mine collecting all things nature they like to arrange everything on the trays. Or lets be honest its a great place for me to try to find any and all distracting items so I can just get some fresh air before someone needs to be held again. This was the first wagon I purchased before I discovered the Radio Flyer Triple wagon and I still love it for days its just me and my twin duo. If my 3 year old is coming along, he usually prefers his push car and sometimes even lets his little brothers take a turn. So I pull two in the wagon, and push one in the front. The things we do for sanity.

The Radio Flyer 333 as I mentioned above, once I discovered this wagon it has definitely saved my arms from the push pull method. Big brother gets one side to himself equipt with cup holders and the Little Duo get a side to themselves so they can do all the pinching, biting, and water bottle stealing they want to while we are enjoying the beautiful outdoors. Bonus we still get the awesome canopy. Which in the are we live has been a live saver when there isn’t a lot of shade, and our ever changing seasons.

The Step 2 Whisper Ride saved me a lot in the first year with a rambunctious then 2 year old running around. I would wrap the twins in a Boba Wrap until about 4 months and after that I switched over to the Twin GO carrier. It is super easy to hook up, and get you and your twin loves situated. Your twin babies are able to sleep or enjoy being close to mommy, while you are still able to enjoy “getting out” with your toddler or pushing him to romp around a park or in my case the mud around a tree at the park.

Headed to the Store?

Using my Ergo 360 I had from my first born, and the shopping cart cover I felt comfortable enough taking my trio out alone. Now this method definitely evolved and changed over the last year and a half. I initially used my Boba Wrap as mentioned above, then moved to my Twin GO while my toddler rode in the top of the cart. As everyone got older and reached 3 and 1 years old, the above pictured method is what I tend to go with now. One of the twins (the needier one that day) gets to be attached to mommy either front facing or on my back. The second Twin gets to ride in the top of the cart, and my older Toddler sits in the big portion or walks along side me. Baby carriers are obviously functional but you might be wondering about a shopping cart cover. Here is my take on it, with my singleton it might have been a little much though I really enjoyed keeping him away from germs but with my Twins I have loved them more not only because of germs but they are more comfortable! When you have twins they are generally smaller then the average baby sitting in a cart so this helped me keep them cozier!

The Buggy Bench! You guys this thing is awesome! I tried it when the twins were about 8 months old and didn’t have much success but once they reached one year they really enjoy it! I alternate the way I face the bench and they both love feeling like they get to do and see the “same things” and of course the twin in the back of the shopping cart enjoys kicking all the groceries so this really works best for small trips. Did I mention it keeps their hands from throwing the groceries out of the cart?!

I hope this helps you navigate the wonderful world of baby/ toddler carting contaptions. Once you find a method that works for you all, the daunting test of fresh air and grocery trips become so much easier I promise! You can never be too prepared for your adventures out with twins (plus).

Enjoy your “freedom” Momma!
